How to process MOTO payments

This article contains a video and step by step guide on how to process Mail Order and Telephone Order (MOTO) payments through the Checkout.com Dashboard.

00:11: Before we begin, you need to verify

00:13: you have access to the dashboard and your user profile has permissions to create

00:17: payments.

00:18: Go to the Dashboard sign in link, insert your email address, and sign in with either

00:23: your password or SSO as configured.

00:26: You're now in the Dashboard, on the business overview screen.

00:30: Select the Settings gear icon on the top right to open your configuration options.

00:36: Click the settings option to access account settings for your Checkout.com account.

00:42: Select "Roles and Permissions".

00:45: Once there, click on the user email.

00:47: This will bring you to the user profile tab to see detailed information and settings

00:51: for the selected user.

00:54: To process MOTO transactions, you need the "Create payment" permission enabled.

00:58: Make sure this box is checked.

00:59: If it is

01:00: turned off, contact your Dashboard administrator to enable it for you.

01:05: Now, let's start the MOTO tutorial. Select the Payments tab on the left.

01:11: Click the Virtual terminal option.

01:14: Click on the channel option and use the drop down to choose the processing

01:17: channel for your transaction.

01:20: Click the Create payment button to begin setting up a new transaction.

01:24: Update the amount field to specify the payment amount for the transaction.

01:29: Use the currency dropdown to select the currency for the payment.

01:33: Scroll to the Card details section to enter the cardholder name, card number,

01:36: expiration date

01:38: and the Card Verification Value, also called the CVV.

01:43: If you want to add customer details, go to Payment Options.

01:47: This button opens an optional customer details form. Adding an email or billing

01:51: address helps your reporting.

01:53: Processing a MOTO transaction

01:55: only requires the payment amount, currency, cardholder name, and card details.

02:01: The dashboard provides five capture options for your MOTO transaction:

02:04: No delay,

02:06: 1 hour, 12 hours, 24 hours, or a custom timeframe. Select the option that matches your

02:11: order requirements.

02:14: For this tutorial, we will select the "No Delay" option.

02:18: You can choose to add a reference as a custom identifier for the payment.

02:21: You can also add a recipient, both of these are optional.

02:25: Now, you have two options.

02:28: You can either "Confirm payment" to process it, or "Confirm and create another" to

02:33: process the current payment and start a new one right away.

02:37: For this demonstration, "Confirm payment" has been clicked to process the charge

02:41: immediately.

02:43: To view the transaction,

02:44: navigate back to the All Payments page under the Payments tab.

02:48: Here you'll see the transaction - click on it to view the payment details.

02:54: It's worth noting that MOTO payments do not pass through authentication. Because of

02:58: this you can't verify the customer's identity,

03:00: so MOTO payments are harder to defend against chargebacks.
