From December 31, 2026, Mastercard plans to replace its current Mastercard Digital Enablement Service for Merchants (M4M) with Mastercard Secure Card on File (SCOF).
SCOF is an updated tokenization service for card-on-file transactions, offering higher performance and more streamlined provisioning, in addition to existing network token functionality.
What you need to do to prepare for the retirement of M4M
- If you use our Vault, this already supports SCOF, so you don’t need to take any action
- If you use a third-party for payment tokenization, we recommend contacting them to ensure they are ready to support SCOF by the end of the year.
