The primary distinction between Static and Dynamic billing descriptors is the type of information that appears on the customer's bank statement:
- Static billing descriptor: The bank statement contains a combination of a merchant's name and registered city, and it can vary depending on the URL or payment method used for the transaction.
Example:- Merchant name: Opus
- Registered city: London
- Billing descriptor: Opus London
- Dynamic billing descriptor: Allows customization of the billing descriptor per transaction through the payment payload request. If no dynamic descriptor is provided, the static descriptor is used as a fallback.
Example:- Merchant name: Opus
- Transaction Description: Clothing
- Registered city: London
- Billing descriptor: Opus Clothing London
Note
In certain situations, merchants may use the registered city field for purposes other than indicating the location, such as specifying the nature of the transaction (e.g., Online purchase). In this case, the static billing description could show as Opus Online purchase.
