Payment declined by Checkout.com global risk rules

Payments may be declined by Checkout.com's global risk rules for the following reasons:

  • Account funding transaction restrictions

  • BIN attacks – The payment may have been part of an enumeration attack used by fraudsters to guess card numbers.

  • Compliance – The payment breached regulatory obligations, for example due to an excluded currency or country.

  • Excessive retries – Schemes set rules to reduce payment retries that we must comply with.

  • Element velocity – The payment followed known fraudulent attempt patterns.

To check why a specific payment was declined, you need the View and search for payments permission:

  1. Sign in to the Dashboard.

  2. Go to Payments > Processing > All payments.

  3. Select the relevant payment to view the Payment details page.

  4. Under Payment timeline, expand the declined event.

  5. Find more information about the response code at Checkout.com-level response codes.
