Why have I lost a dispute on a recurring payment (MIT) even with a favorable ECI value?

For recurring payments, known as merchant-initiated transactions (MITs), you hold the liability for disputes, meaning liability shift does not apply.

An ECI (e-commerce indicator) value of 07 often indicates a successful authentication. However, specific payment network rules for MITs override general liability shift rules, so you remain liable.
