If you process payments with Checkout.com, you do not need to take any further action to enable the Address Verification System (AVS).
AVS checks are globally available for Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover,.
For every supported card transaction, Checkout.com automatically sends the address to the issuer to verify as long as you provide a billing address in your payment request.
If you process payments using:
-
Checkout.com API – Ensure you send an address in the source.billing_address.address_line1 field of your payment request. For instructions on testing AVS in your API integration, see AVS check testing.
- Hosted Payment Pages or Payment Links – Checkout.com runs an AVS check if the customer provides a billing address.
The response code for an AVS check is returned in the response to the payment request.
You can also view the response code on the Dashboard:
- Sign in to the Dashboard.
- Go to Payments > All payments.
- Select a payment to view its details.
- Under Additional information from this payment, you can find the response code in the AVS check field.
If you've configured a Fraud Detection rule with the :avs_code: rule category, it may decline payments. For more information, see Understand Fraud Detection.
